Living Lincoln Series

Beginning in February 2009 and continuing throughout the Bicentennial Celebration Season, Ford’s Theatre will present a series of free Monday night events celebrating the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln. These presentations will include noted Lincoln historians, well-known performers, and collaborations with other theatres and organizations around the city.

  • February 16 (all tickets have been reserved): Lincoln Seen and Heard (90 minutes, no intermission)
    Featuring Sam Waterston and Harold Holzer
  • February 23: The Rivalry (90 minutes, no intermission)
    A reading of the play by Norman Corwin
  • March 2 (all tickets have been reserved): Lincoln as Humorist (90 minutes, no intermission)
    Featuring Conan O'Brien and Joshua Wolf Shenk
  • April 13 (all tickets have been reserved): Lincoln and Shakespeare (90 minutes, no intermission)
    Presented in collaboration with the Shakespeare Theatre Company and featuring actor Andrew Long
  • April 20 (all tickets have been reserved): Race and Emancipation In the Age of Lincoln (90 minutes, no intermission)
    A scholar's panel hosted by Howard University's Dr. Edna Medford
  • April 27: Oratory in the Age of Lincoln (90 minutes, no intermission) Featuring Orators from Central High School
  • May 4 (all tickets have been reserved): Lincoln as Storyteller (60 minutes, no intermission)
    Featuring Jon Spelman
  • May 11 (all tickets have been reserved): Lincoln as Commander-in-Chief (90 minutes, no intermission)
    With guest scholar and Pulitzer Prize-winning author James McPherson
  • May 18 (all tickets have been reserved): Lincoln in Love (2.5 hours, with intermission)
    The reading of a new musical.

All programs will be free, although tickets should be reserved in advance.

Each performance starts at 7:00 p.m. Most will last for approximately 90 minutes with no intermission. This includes time for a question and answer session. Lincoln in Love will be two acts with an intermission and run about two and a half hours.
