Ford’s Theatre volunteers play a very significant role in the overall visitor experience this historic site has to offer. Volunteers are the face of Ford's Theatre and are expected to represent the theatre with the highest standard of respect and value.

General Information for Volunteer Ushers:

Call time

  • Volunteer Ushers are expected to arrive one hour prior to the performance time.

Performance times are generally as follows

  • Tuesday – Sunday Evenings: 7:30 p.m.
  • Weekday Matinees: noon or 2:30 p.m.
  • Weekend Matinees: noon or 2:30 p.m.

Dress Code

  • Ushers are required to wear white tops and black pants or skirt.
  • Please no jeans, sneakers or flip flops.

Cancellation Policy

  • Except in the case of an emergency, please contact Ford’s Theatre at least 48 hours before your volunteer date to reschedule.
  • For last-minute and weekend cancellations, please contact the Box Office at (202) 347-4833.

Historical Interpreters volunteer daily with park visitors and work closely with National Park Service Rangers and Ford’s Theatre Society Staff.  Interpreters are an asset to the success and daily operation of Ford’s Theatre National Historic Site.

General Information for Historical Interpreters:

Call Time: Historical Interpreters are scheduled base on the needs of the site and the specific volunteer.

Hours: Ford’s Theatre is open Monday – Sunday, 8am – 5pm for visitation

Dress Code: Volunteers with be provided with a National Park Service Volunteer polo shirt and a Ford’s Theatre Society partner pin
